Care
Summerinas are fast-growing and require minimal care for success and, because of their bloodlines, they are both heat and humidity tolerant.
- Hardy to USDA Zone 7-9
- Bloom Season: Late May–October/first frost
- Exposure: Full Sun
- Soil: Well-drained, coarse soil with a pH range of 5.5-6
- Planting: For best results, place outside in an area with plenty of sunshine and airflow so that foliage and flower can fully dry after each watering.
- Irrigation: Water directly at the soil level, avoiding the foliage and flowers.
- Drip irrigation is best to keep the foliage and flowers dry and prevent any moisture-related disease issues from developing.
- Early morning watering is also helpful to allow ample time for any moisture that falls on the foliage to dry out.
- Preparing for winter: Summerinas can overwinter in warmer climates.
- It is best to wait until the following early spring to trim them back. When trimmed before winter, the old flower stems (which are hollow) will be left open and can collect water that will freeze and damage the heart of the plant.

Summerina History
The Summerina series was born in a small town in Holland from a breeding program over a decade in the making, it is hard, detailed work to cross two different genera. After many failed attempts of making the complicated crossing, success was made and the Summerina series came to life offering one of the most unique and exquisite crosses we have ever seen! Summerinas were bred for pleasure and to inspire new color and texture from the summer to early fall. It is a must have for any perennial collection.
The Summerina series itself boasts an incredible 11 varieties and has forever changed the perennial world. Summerinas have come a long way from the initial idea to cross Rudbeckia and Echinacea, selecting the strengths from both genera to overcome their weaknesses.
